This June we are launching our summer courses – a 6-week programme intended to get you feeling stronger and improve pain levels, whilst educating you about your scoliosis or spinal fusion and connecting you to others in the community.

Each week, you’ll join a movement class, a scoliosis workshop and an additional stretch focused session. With a little bit of structure around your movement and a chance to chat with others in each session, you’ll leave feeling a little taller.

BEGINNER PILATES

If you’re new to scoli-friendly Pilates, this is the course for you. Over 6 weeks we’ll be going back to basics, learning how our bodies move differently with curvy spines and fused spines.

We’ll cover the basic principles of Pilates and show you adaptive ways to move that are safe and effective for your spine. We’re especially focusing on building core strength and mobility.

Working with instructor Katie, who has a fusion herself, you’ll build relationships within your group to meet likeminded people with the same experiences.

LOW-IMPACT HIIT

Knowing what cardio works best for your back can be tricky – we’ve formulated specialised low-impact cardio to get your heart rate up, without leaving lasting pain.

Hope’s here to take you through adapted movements, push you to accomplish new levels and support you with your own self-progression.

Hope herself lives with scoliosis and will be there to connect you with others in the same boat from your group.

HIIT & PILATES MIX

When building strong, resilient bodies, a variety of movement is the best way to ensure your muscles, heart and head all get a workout.

With this session, you’ll complete 30 minutes of HIIT, before 30 minutes of Pilates – this seamless mixture will leave you feeling strong and stretched all in one. This is perfect if you’re new to cardio or just hoping for a bit of both!

You’ll be working with instructors Hope & Lottie who live with scoliosis & spinal fusion respectively, meaning they understand how your body works and the experiences you’ve had. You’ll of course get the chance to connect with those in your group, share experiences and gain friendships too.

Pilates 

With her T4-L5 spinal fusion, Pilates trainer Emily is perfectly placed to guide you along this journey, whether you’re hoping for core strengthening and pain management, through to a powerful, sweaty session.

What is Pilates?

Pilates can be defined as exercise that aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing (NHS).

Why is Pilates good for Spinal fusions and Scoliosis?

Pilates for Scoliosis and Spinal fusion is a fantastic tool to connect with your body through strength and mobility, understanding how to manage and mitigate pain, increase your core strength and love your body inside and out.

Try our specialised Spinal fusion Pilates, aiming to strengthen our core as well as above and below our rods, build your own brace with our Scoliosis specific Pilates, or join our main group sessions for low-impact route to a stronger, more mobile body.

Eversince having my spinal fusion surgery, I have always wanted to find a yoga or pilates class that helps to increase my strength and flexibility. Well... what can I say about Em at Build Breathe Pilates? She is AMAZING!! I started classes during lockdown, I was super nervous and sceptical but after my trial class I knew I had found someone so unbelievably special! Em's classes are SO much fun and I always feel really in tune with my body. After only a few weeks I can already see the improvement both in class and in my day to day activity, and the progress that I’m making that is really motivating. I’m finding that regular Pilates is really helping with my pain management - before when my back was a bit twingy I’d take paracetamol, but now I do a few stretches to ease the pain!
