Personal development and recovery

Had a little throwback today to after my operation when I literally couldn’t lift a cup of tea – marking milestones for yourself and measuring success against previous version of yourself is a great way to see how far you’ve come, removing external comparison and focusing on YOU.

I didn’t think it was possible, but the day after my op I was up out of bed and trying to take steps, a couple days later I was taking walks round the ward – I don’t remember much from that week (so many painkillers!) but I do remember the exhaustion mixed with achievement with each step I took. It’s a great thing to be able to recall whenever I don’t feel strong, just looking back at where I’ve come from says so much.

It’s so easy to focus on achieving someone else’s goal when we see how well people are doing through their social feeds – you have to remember this is a highlights reel, and it’s personal to them. By creating your own benchmarks, based on your self-development, I promise you’ll see how far you’ve come.
